Welcome to every 'Furey' who shows up!

This is a lark: I had a daffy notion of meeting as many people with the same last name as my own. I'm looking forward to hearing from lots of other 'Furey's, so please drop by and spend your two cents. I know it's not the most uncommon name ever, but I'm curious as to how many others have had their surname misspelled and/or mispronounced?! I get "Furry" if it's spelled right, and correctly uttered but misspelled "Fury".
I've also gotten "Furley", "Ferry", "Feury", "Fleury" .... etc etc.
I'm waiting for someone to say and spell my name right, but get "Kim" wrong! (hahah)
.... So let the soiree begin. Welcome to Fureyland!
Meantime, check this out: Fureynet!

Kim Furey

Hello all my name is Mark FEURY. I've been researching my name and have found so many variations that it's mind boggling. As far as I can tell, when my ancestors came to the US from Europe and gave their sur name the name takers spelled it the way it sounded to them. Hencforth so many variations. All I can be sure of is that my family came over from Ireland as to when and where I'm clueless. Anyone with information feel free to email me at mfeury66@hotmail.com

Hi: I live in Colorado in the States. My mother was Sarah Fidelis Furey, also called Elizabeth Furey. Her family came from Galway, but I'm not sure where. She died in 1994, the last of fourteen children, so the generation that knew is gone.

Her father was Joseph Furey, and she had two brothers, Joseph and James.

My greatgrandfather, Thomas Feury, came from Glin, County Limerick to Boston in 1880. His brother, Patrick, settled in Portland, Maine and he eventually settled in Jersey City. Went to Ireland last year, met some relatives and visited the old Feury farm in Glenagragra.

Hi My name is actually Fleury...and I have been doggedly trying to find my Irish ancestors for 5 years. All I know is they came from Ireland. Is there anyone out there who can provide any info on the Fleury families in Ireland? I have a website http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/f/l/e/Joyce-Fleury/index.html which is about the genealogy of our family that I have traced. Anyone who can fill me in on any Irish details about this sector please email me. Thanks

Hi All,

My (married) name is Crystal McPhee but my Mother's Maiden surname is Furi. I know my family on that side has strong Hungarian roots but it sounds like the original family line started in Ireland. I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and the rest of my Furi relatives live in the Saskatoon, Prince Albert Saskatchewan area. Hope to learn more if possible.

Hi there! My Grandmother's maiden name was Furay (Jeanette Knickerbocker Furay). I've been researching my family's genealogy for a couple of years now and have hit some dead ends as well as finding some fascinating information about my Furey family line. My Great Grandfather's name was Niles Knickerbocker Furey, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1890. His father was William Thomas Furey, he was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1840 to William Francis Furey and Harriet Hanlon. William Thomas and Harriet Furey also had 4 daughters, Maria, Jane, Harriet and Elisabeth (Lizzie). Unknown if there are any more children.
It appears as though they immigrated to the U.S. about 1848 and came through NY before settling in Chicago, IL in the 1850's. I don't know what became of the daughters, Maria and Harriet, but I know that Jane Furey married a Michael Ambrose Donohue in Chicago in 1863 and they had quite a large family together. Mr. Donohue was a big book publisher in the Chicago area in the late 1800's- early 1900's. Lizzie Furey died in the late 1920's and doesn't appear as though she ever married. As of now, I do not know when Mrs. Harriet Hanlon Furey died, but William Francis Furey died in Chicago in 1900. Their son, my 2x Great Grandfather, William Thomas Furey ended up settling in Los Angeles, CA in 1896 and died there in 1922.

I would love to find out more info on this family! They are full of mystery! I've come across several newspaper articles on Furey men who were con artists and would like to know if my Furey's are connected in any way!

I'm not a Furey, but I have Furey's distantly related to me through marriage - "Unknown" mentioned Niles Knickerbocker Furey...I had gone down a path exploring this part of the family because I loved his name. This is what I found after about an hour or two of searching...

His mother was Ada Adeline Elizabeth Kelly 1855-1923

His sister Jane's husband was from Galway, Born sept 25, 1841, died Oct 5, 1915
Jane was born May 14, 1842 in Dublin, died Oct 16, 1919

They had the following children:
John William Donahue 1866-1919 (VP book binder)
William Francis Donahue Feb 17, 1868
Harriet Theresa "Hattie" Donohue Jan 1871- Dec 261909
Michael Ambrose Donahue Jr (born in Hinsdale IL May 14, 1872, Died July 2, 1943 in Etobicoke, ON, Canada)
Edgar Timoty Donahue Jul 3 1874-Jan 8 1961
Edgar S. Donahue 1880
A. Marion Donahue Oct 1881
Jeannette Donahue 1885
Most seem to have stayed in the Chicago area

If you go to myheritage.com, there's a family site called Donahue Web Site, and it's interesting, but the site has some of these names recorded as Donohue instead of Donahue

Michael Ambrose Jr's wife was Adah Agatha Maley,
They had a child Michael Ambrose Donahue III

Lizzie Furey died in 1928

Maria Louise seems to have married John Harrison Gage. children:
Josephine Hubbard Jr 1871-1900
John H. Gage 1874
another gage child available by contacting myheritage site owner for the LEBO family
Jennie Gage 1872
Herbert Lincoln Gage

I think the person managing the Lebo family tree may have a lot more connections to this family branch including people still living...
